Incredible as it seemed, 4 weeks had gone by in the blink of an eye. We had attended numerous Christmas parties, eaten and drunk way too much, and spent good times with family and friends.
But now, the last of the presents were exchanged, the last of the cookies and candies eaten, and we had to pack our bags and be on our way back to Florida and the boat.
Our flights were relatively uneventful, although a slightly late arrival in Atlanta had us scrambling across the city-sized airport (which needs a subway to get between its terminals!) in order to get onto our connecting flight before they closed the doors! We made it, but were almost the last ones aboard.
Once we deplaned in West Palm Beach, I breathed a sigh of relief and stripped off my now unnecessary coat! We had gone from 50 degrees to 80 degrees in a few hours.
Unfortunately, my releif was short lived. The next day, a front went through, and the temperature plummeted to an unseasonably cold 65 degrees, getting down to 55 at night! Back out came the jeans and jackets. We even ran the heater in the boat!

After doing some provisioning for perishable foodstuffs, we decided to play tourist for the rest of the day and went to see Jetty Park on Hutchinson Island at the Ft Pierce inlet. The wind was blowing hard due to the front's passage, and the kite-boarders were out in force, doing high-speed runs, and occasional aerial acrobatics, launching themselves 15 or 20 feet in the air!

The next day, the temps went back to a more "seasonaly normal" range, with days in the low 80s and nights in the upper 60s.
We attended a New Years party being organized by one of the marina's regular cruisers. She did an enourmous amount of cooking, plus everybody brought something. It was a real fun time, with plenty of food, booze, and fireworks (what could possibly go wrong? ;) )
Our current plans are to leave here early Tuesday morning (Jan 3) and start heading south again. We expect to be in the Miami area by this weekend.
