Today was a rainy overcast day, so, no pictures.
It was also a somewhat short day, 26 nm. This was due to needing to position ourselves properly for the next High tide tomorrow.
It was also the first day of Eastern Standard Time, which meant we were getting up at 5:30 instead of 6:30 to get going at first light!
Fortunately, the rain held off long enough for us to get the anchor up and get under way. It never rained very hard, just enough to make things wet and drippy.
The trek down Winyah Bay got a little choppy as the wind came up, but this disappeared once we turned off into the canal that would take us back into the twisty, winding collection of connected creeks and rivers that is the ICW.
We were aware of reported shoaling near McClellenville, with some reports claiming 4 ft at low tide. Since we require 4 1/2 feet, this was concerning. So, our plan was to pull off of the ICW onto Five Fathom Creek and anchor for the night. This was just before the shallow spots. This would allow us to get going in the morning when the tide was close to high tide.
The weather forecast had called for storms this evening, but when I checked the weather radar after we anchored, it looked like the heaviest parts would miss us.
We sat cozy and (relatively) dry inside while the light rain pattered down on the cabintop.
Tomorrow, we head for Charleston, where we have reservations for a two day stay at the Charleston Maritime Center, which is adjacent to downtown and within easy walking distance of the grocery and hardware stores. My sister and brother-in-law are planning to drive over to vist with us while we are there.
Life is good.
